All directions are from the inn: Rainbow Sandal Factory – these trendy leather flip flops are the rage throughout the country and abroad and cost only $33 to $36 at the factory store - I-5 North to Pico exit in San Clemente, turn left. Turn left on Los Molinos. The factory is immediately on the left New San Clemente beach trail – alongside the Pacific Ocean/train tracks from North Beach to South Beach (Califia State Beach)…wonderful walk (pet friendly for most of the trail).. From the inn turn right on Del mar and the trail starts at the pier Sunset at the pier – locals love the bar side of Fisherman’s for happy hour appetizers and dinners and the best picture postcard golden sunsets in Southern California. Walking the pier – nothing beats a walk on our grand old wooden pier for watching the surfers, folks fishing off the pier , beautiful views and just plain old people watching Walking barefoot in the sand – San Clemente has some of the cleanest beaches in Southern California. We give up our Rainbow sandals temporarily for a leisurely stroll on the beach. Historic Del Mar Avenue downtown shopping district- 60 shops a block from the inn on Del Mar; great clothing Sunday Morning Farmer’s Market – on Del Mar from Ola Vista to Seville – fresh locally grown fruits and vegetables, flowers, orchid and succulent plants, potted herbs, fresh breads, and aromatherapy toiletries to boot. Downtown’s restaurants, cafes and music at night – Ask for our recommendations for everything from fine dining to pizza and Mexican carry outs, all within walking distance of the inn. San Clemente Art Walk – 5:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. the last Thursday of each month with up and coming and established artists displaying their craft, food, drink and music at more than 30 downtown establishments, including Always Inn San Clemente Cabrillo Playhouse – kitty corner from the inn – has plays several times a year Casa Romantica – home of San Clemente’s founder, Ole Hanson, the Casa is now a historic site, with beautiful gardens overlooking the Pacific Ocean Toby's House Thrift Store on El Camino Real - left on Ola Vista, left on Del Mar, right on El Camino Real...great Crate and Barrel offerings at seriously discounted prices Local gardens – Freda is a member of the San Clemente Garden Club, and our little Spanish Village by the Sea boasts incredible gardens with native plantings and fragrant blooms of gardenia, star jasmine, geraniums and herbs such as rosemary, lavender, lemon verbena and more. A walk through the streets of South San Clemente is a gardener’s dream. San Juan Capistrano Mission – we consider it the jewel of the mission chain in California - right on Ola Vista, right on Palizada, left on I-5 North. Exit Ortega Highway and turn left. The mission is two blocks on the right. Dana Point Harbor - take El Camino real to Highway 1 north 1 mile. Turn left on Dana Point Harbor Drive...plethora of restaurant, great sailboats, power boats and yachts to oooh and aaahh over, and California seal watching, plus a tall ship to tour. Laguna Beach - take El Camino real to Highway 1 North 10 miles...a picturesque beach with a marine pool,, one of our favorite restaurants (Las Brisas), the Pottery Barn (ask for Phyllis) for wonderful souvenirs, and shops and galleries galore Paul Mitchell Beauty School, hair cut and color for $20-30 depending on highlights/lowlights, etc. I-5 North to I-405 North to Harbor Blvd. Turn left. Turn right into parking lot at the corner of Adams. IKEA furniture factory - same directions as Paul Mitchell except you turn right on Harbor and right on Sunrise into their center.
